Switching From Front to EzyConn: A Practical Migration Guide

Front is built around shared email. EzyConn is built around website chat and AI. Moving between them is less a data migration than a change of habit. Here is what to export, what breaks and what to test.

The short version

  • Run both for two weeks. Send website chat to EzyConn, leave email on Front.
  • Budget half a day of work. The two weeks is waiting for real questions, not effort.
  • The pricing changes shape. Front charges per seat. EzyConn charges per workspace, from a free plan up, with Starter at $25 a month.

First, work out what you are actually replacing

Front is a collaborative email tool: a shared mailbox where several people work the same messages, commenting privately on a thread, assigning it to each other, writing replies together, and setting rules that move mail around automatically. It is very good at this.

EzyConn starts somewhere else. It is a website chat tool where AI answers first and a human steps in when it should not. Email works, but the centre of gravity is the chat window on your site.

So the useful question is not which product is better. It is where your customers turn up. Open Front and look at your last 200 conversations. If a growing share are people on your website wanting an answer in the next 60 seconds, and nobody is watching that window, you are paying for the wrong shape of tool.

When switching from Front makes sense

If a growing share of your questions arrive on your website, EzyConn answers them from your own pages and documents, shows the source, and hands the chat to your team when a visitor asks for a person.

There is also a middle answer a lot of teams land on: keep both. Front runs the shared email, EzyConn runs the widget, the AI and the after-hours cover. That is not indecision, it is two tools each doing the job they were built for. For the head-to-head detail, the Front alternative comparison lays out the differences feature by feature.

What moves, and what does not

Here is the honest inventory.

What you have in FrontWhat to do with it
Email threads and historyLeave them. Keep Front read-only for a month as an archive.
ContactsExport to CSV before you downgrade or cancel.
Saved replies and templatesCopy the 20 you actually use. Ignore the rest.
Rules, routing and assignmentRebuild from scratch. Do not try to port them.
Tags and labelsRebuild a shorter list. Most tag sets have grown weeds.
Reporting historyExport or screenshot. New numbers will not be comparable.
Inbound email addressesLeave them pointed at Front until the very end.
Website chat widgetA fresh install. One script tag, about 15 minutes.

The rules row is the one people argue with. Mature rule sets are usually a museum of decisions nobody remembers making. Rebuild the five that matter and see whether you miss the other forty. Most teams do not.

The real migration is teaching the AI

Data is not the work. The work is getting the AI to answer your questions the way you would answer them. You point EzyConn at your website and help pages, and it builds answers from those. The models underneath are GPT-4o and Claude, included on every plan including the free one, with no charge per AI resolution and none per seat.

The part that takes time is reading. Sit with the first hundred real conversations and mark the answers that are wrong, vague or too keen. Each one is a gap in your own content, which is the quietly useful side effect. Two afternoons of that beats a month of tinkering with settings.

The switch, step by step

  1. Export first, touch billing last. Pull contacts and saved replies out of Front while the account is fully active. Downgrade nothing yet.
  2. Open EzyConn on the free plan. $0 forever, 2 people, 500 messages and 1,000 AI credits a month. Enough for a genuine trial without a card.
  3. Put the widget on one page, not all of them. Pick a page with traffic and repetitive questions, usually pricing. One script tag and you are live.
  4. Wire up where your team already works. Replies work from a Slack thread, so nobody has to keep a new tab open all day. Do this on day one. It is the biggest single factor in whether the team adopts the tool.
  5. Run both for two weeks. Email keeps going to Front, website chat to EzyConn. Nothing is at risk, because the streams do not overlap. Do not cancel Front on day one: a fortnight of overlap buys you the right to change your mind.
  6. Then decide the split. Move the whole team, or keep Front for email and EzyConn for chat. Cancel nothing until you have made that call.

What to test during the overlap

Write your list before you start, otherwise you will judge the new tool on how it looks rather than what it does.

  • Write your ten most common questions down first, then check the AI answers all ten. Writing them first stops you moving the goalposts.
  • Time the handover: how long from a customer asking for a human to a human replying?
  • Try it at 9pm on a Saturday. After-hours cover is the point of AI answering first.
  • Test on a phone, on your own site, as a customer would.
  • Have a teammate reply from Teams or Slack without opening the dashboard. If that feels awkward, adoption stalls.
  • Count your monthly conversations against the plan caps, so the bill holds no surprises.

Hands-on, that is under a day. The calendar says two weeks because you are waiting for real customers. The common mistake is trying to make the AI perfect before launch. You cannot. Real questions are stranger than the ones you imagine at your desk.

What it costs, honestly

Front charges per seat per month. We are not going to print a Front figure here, because published prices move and a stale number is worse than none. Ask them for a quote, multiply by headcount, and compare that to a flat plan.

EzyConn charges per workspace: Starter is $25 a month and Professional $95 a month, with 20% off if you pay annually, plus the free plan at $0 forever and Enterprise by agreement. Free covers 2 people, Starter 4 and Professional 11. AI is on every plan with no per-seat and no per-resolution charge. What the plans meter is messages per month: 500 on Free, 5,000 on Starter and 25,000 on Professional. The full breakdown is on the pricing page.

The shape matters more than the size. On a per-seat plan, a weekend volunteer costs the same as a full-time agent, which quietly discourages you from giving people access at all. On a per-plan model, extra people are free. It is worth seeing how a shared inbox without per-seat fees changes who you are willing to invite.

Frequently asked questions

How long does switching from Front actually take?

Around half a day of hands-on work, spread across about two weeks of calendar time. Setup is quick: roughly 30 minutes to export from Front, 15 to install the widget, an hour to feed the AI your website and help pages, and 20 minutes to connect Microsoft Teams or Slack. The two weeks are waiting, not work. Real customer questions have to arrive before you can judge the answers.

How does Front pricing compare to EzyConn pricing?

Front charges per seat per month, so the bill tracks how many people you have. We do not quote a Front figure here, because published prices move. Ask them for a current quote and multiply by headcount. EzyConn charges per workspace instead: Starter is $25 a month and Professional is $95 a month, with 20% off on annual billing. Professional covers 11 people (10 agents plus the account owner). AI is included on every plan with no per-seat and no per-resolution fees, so the number you watch is messages per month, not people.

What breaks when you move off Front?

Two things. Your rules and routing logic do not transfer, so you rebuild them, usually much simpler than the originals. And your reporting history stops, so old and new numbers are not comparable for a quarter. Everything else is a fresh setup rather than a migration.
