How to Cancel Tidio Safely

Cancelling is the easy part. Doing it in the wrong order is how people lose two years of conversation history and an email list they cannot rebuild. Here is what to export first, what happens to separately billed AI and add-ons, what quietly breaks when the widget disappears, and the order to do it all in.

The one rule

Cancel last, not first. Export while the account is paid and active. Set the replacement up. Remove the old script. Only then cancel, and check each billing line separately, because the plan, the AI and the branding removal are three different charges.

Step 1: export six things

What you can export depends on your plan, so check before you downgrade anything. Work through this list in one sitting and put the files somewhere shared rather than on one person's laptop.

WhatHowWhy it matters
Conversation transcriptsUsually a CSV exportContinuity, and a source of real questions to train new AI on
Contacts and email addressesContacts exportThe only truly irreplaceable asset in the account
Saved and canned repliesCopy and paste into a docThe first thing your team misses on day one
Help and FAQ contentCopy the source textFeeds the replacement AI immediately
Bot flow logicScreenshots, one per flowFlow logic does not transfer between vendors in any format
Last 90 days of reportingScreenshotsWithout it you have no baseline to judge the new tool against

One warning about downgrading to a free plan as a halfway house. It feels safe, but a lower tier can restrict the exports you were counting on, and it is the wrong moment to discover that. Export first. Downgrade later, if at all.

Step 2: understand what you are actually cancelling

This is the part that produces surprise charges. Tidio bills the plan, then bills Lyro AI separately from the plan, and then bills the branding removal separately again on lower tiers. Three lines, potentially three switches.

So do not assume that ending the plan ends everything. Open your billing settings, list every active charge, and cancel each one deliberately. Then ask support to confirm in writing that all of them are ending and on what date. Keep the email. It costs five minutes and settles any argument later.

As for any remaining AI allowance: treat it as gone. On the free tier the 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off rather than a monthly reset, so there is no balance to preserve, and paid AI is a subscription rather than a bank of credits you own. Time your cutover around the billing date instead of trying to use up a balance. There is more on how the three meters interact in Tidio pricing explained.

Step 3: remove the widget properly

Cancelling the subscription does not clean up your website. Track down every place the code was added, because it is almost never just one:

  • Your theme or template. A script pasted into a header or footer file years ago, possibly by someone who has left.
  • A plugin or store app. Uninstall it rather than just disabling it, so it stops loading entirely.
  • Your tag manager. Pause the tag, then delete it, and check for triggers that referenced it.
  • Landing page builders. These often carry their own separate copy of the snippet.

Then load your site with the browser network tab open and search for the vendor's domain. If anything still loads, you have missed a copy, and it is costing you page speed for a product you no longer pay for.

What breaks the moment the widget goes

  • Analytics goals and tag manager triggers that listened for chat events go silent without erroring. Nothing turns red. Your conversion reporting just quietly changes shape.
  • Links into old transcripts pasted into CRM notes, tickets or internal docs stop resolving. Anyone chasing an old customer issue hits a dead end.
  • Notification routing. Whoever was getting chat alerts stops getting them. If your replacement sends alerts somewhere else, say so out loud on the day rather than assuming people will notice.
  • The mobile app on people's phones. It keeps sitting there showing nothing. Have the team delete it, or someone will spend a fortnight wondering why chat has gone quiet.
  • Any automation downstream that was triggered by chat events, such as a CRM contact being created. Check what depended on it before, not after.

The safe cutover order

OrderDo thisWhat it costs
1Export everything, account still paidNothing
2Set up the replacement and test itNothing
3Run both on different sections of the siteOne extra month of the old bill
4Point all traffic at the new widgetNothing
5Remove every old script tag and appNothing
6Cancel the plan and each separate add-onThe old subscription
7Delete the account, once the exports are checkedAccess to anything you forgot

Step 7 deserves a pause. Deleting the account is final, and the exports you took are only as good as the day you check them. Open the CSVs, confirm the rows are actually there, then wait a month before deleting anything. The parallel-running part of this, and how to test the replacement, is covered in our guide to switching from Tidio.

When not to cancel yet

  • You are mid-way through an annual term. Cancelling early rarely refunds anything. Export now, switch at renewal.
  • It is your busiest season. Never change the tool that answers customers during peak. Wait for a quiet month.
  • You have not tested a replacement on real traffic. A demo is not a test. Run it on live visitors first.
  • Nobody has agreed where replies will land. Sort that out before you remove the thing people currently use.

Somewhere to land

If you want a replacement running before you cancel, EzyConn's free plan is $0 forever with 2 seats, 1 chat widget, and 500 messages a month that reset, so the overlap week costs nothing. Paid plans are Starter at $25 a month and Professional at $95 a month, with AI on GPT-4o and Claude included at every tier, no per-seat and no per-resolution fees, and replies that work natively inside Microsoft Teams, Slack and Zoom. Questions people ask

What should I do before cancelling Tidio?

Export everything while the account is still paid and fully active. That means conversation transcripts, contacts and email addresses, saved replies, the help content your bot answered from, screenshots of every bot flow, and a screenshot of your last 90 days of reporting. Cancelling or downgrading first is the mistake that costs people their history.

Does cancelling my Tidio plan also stop the Lyro AI charge?

Do not assume it does. Lyro AI is billed separately from the plan, and the branding removal add-on is separate again. Because they are separate lines, check each one individually in your billing settings and confirm in writing that all of them are ending. The commonest post-cancellation surprise is an add-on that kept running after the plan stopped.

What happens to unused Lyro conversations when I cancel?

Treat any remaining allowance as lost. On the free tier the 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off allowance rather than a monthly reset, so there is nothing to carry anywhere in the first place, and paid AI packages are a subscription rather than a bank of credits you own. Plan your cutover date around your billing date instead of trying to spend a balance.

What breaks when I remove the Tidio widget?

Four things, and only the first is obvious. The chat bubble disappears. Any tag manager trigger or analytics goal listening for widget events goes silent without throwing an error. Links pasted into CRM notes that point at old transcripts stop resolving. And leftover script tags in your theme keep loading and slow the page down for nothing.

Should I cancel Tidio before or after setting up a replacement?

Always after. Set up the replacement, run both for about a week on different parts of the site, then remove the old script, then cancel. The overlap costs one extra month of the old subscription and removes the risk of a gap where customer messages arrive and nobody sees them.
