EzyConn vs CustomGPT.ai: Accurate Answers or Finished Conversations?

One of these products is trying to be right. The other is trying to be done. That sounds like a slogan until you look at the pricing, at which point it becomes the whole comparison.

The short answer

CustomGPT.ai is a retrieval engine with citations, built for large document sets where an answer has to be checkable. EzyConn is a customer conversation platform, built for businesses where the answer is only half the job and somebody still has to book the appointment or pick up the escalation. If your problem is customers arriving on WhatsApp at 8pm, CustomGPT is not really competing.

These two products end up on the same shortlist because both are described as AI chatbots, which is a category label that has stopped meaning very much. Spend twenty minutes with each and the overlap turns out to be narrow.

CustomGPT.ai is unusually clear about what it is for, and that clarity deserves credit. It ingests your material and answers questions about it with a link back to the source. Everything in the product serves that goal. There is no attempt to be a help desk, and the company does not pretend otherwise.

What CustomGPT.ai does well

The ingestion is serious. It handles more than 1,400 file formats, connects to over 100 sources including Google Drive, SharePoint, Confluence, OneDrive, HubSpot, WordPress, Shopify, Notion, Zendesk and YouTube, and will take websites, help desks, knowledge bases, documents, videos and podcasts. On the Premium plan an agent can hold 20,000 documents. Very few products in this category are built to swallow a corpus that size.

Every response carries a link to its source. That design choice sounds small and is not. When somebody disputes an answer, being able to click through to the paragraph it came from ends the argument in seconds. The company also states it is verified by a third party as leading on anti hallucination performance and that it handles 93 percent of support and research questions. Those are its figures rather than ours, and we have not independently tested them, but the citation architecture behind the claim is visible and sound.

It also commits to never using customer data to train a language model, publishes SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance, and supports 92 languages. Deployment covers websites plus WordPress, SharePoint, Notion, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Readme and GitBook, which tells you exactly who the buyer is: someone with a documentation site or a knowledge base, not someone running a support rota.

What EzyConn does differently

EzyConn treats the answer as the beginning. The AI replies from your content, and then one of three things happens. It completes a task, it hands to a person, or it keeps the thread alive on whatever channel the customer chose.

Task completion means bounded actions. Checking availability across several staff, booking, moving an existing booking and releasing the slot it freed, sending a reminder the day before. Permissions are explicit: a refund can be allowed under a set amount, and cancelling a subscription can be refused outright. The configuration side is covered on our workflow automation and decision tree pages.

Handing to a person means a real shared inbox with the history attached, and the option for staff to answer from inside Slack, with chats also posted to Microsoft Teams, rather than learning another console.

Keeping the thread alive means channels: the website widget, WhatsApp, Telegram, email and the phone, where the AI answers calls using the same knowledge and the same permitted actions as the chat.

The pricing gap is the story

CustomGPT.ai has no free plan. Standard is $99 a month for 10 agents, 1,000 queries, 5,000 documents per agent and 3 team members. Premium is $499 a month for 25 agents, 5,000 queries, 20,000 documents per agent and 5 team members, and it is the first tier where you can remove CustomGPT branding. Enterprise is priced on request. Annual billing saves 10 percent.

The add on rates are where a budget can come apart. Another 2,500 queries is $375 a month. Another 300 million words of storage is $300. Another five team seats is $100. Twenty five more agents is $100.

Set that against EzyConn: free for 500 messages a month and 2 people, Starter at $25 a month for 5,000 messages, 4 people, Workflows and AI Actions, Professional at $95 a month for 25,000 messages, 11 people, AI Email and the EzyConn badge removed, and Enterprise by agreement. The pricing page has the full ladder.

A worked example is more useful than the table. Six people, roughly 3,500 customer questions a month. On CustomGPT that is Standard at $99, plus five extra seats at $100, plus 2,500 extra queries at $375, so about $574 a month before branding removal, which needs the $499 tier anyway. On EzyConn it is Professional at $95 a month, with 11 people, 25,000 messages and badge removal included. If what you actually need is customer support, you are paying a large premium for retrieval depth you will not use. Our guide to AI chatbot pricing models covers why query metering and conversation metering diverge so violently at scale.

Two situations worth thinking through

A compliance officer asks which clause of the 200 page policy covers contractor cover. CustomGPT will find the clause across a large document set and link to it so the officer can verify the wording. That is precisely the job it was built for.

A customer messages on WhatsApp asking to move Thursday's appointment to Friday. EzyConn handles the whole thing: it reads the message on WhatsApp, finds the booking, checks Friday availability, moves it, frees Thursday and confirms. CustomGPT does not publish WhatsApp as a channel or scheduling as a capability, so the honest answer is that this request never reaches it.

An honest assessment of both

Where EzyConn is stronger

  • A free forever plan. CustomGPT has no free tier and its entry price is $99.
  • 11 people on Professional at $95 a month, against $100 for every five extra CustomGPT seats.
  • Messaging and voice channels: WhatsApp, Telegram, email and the phone.
  • A published human handoff path with a shared inbox and Slack answering.
  • Actions that finish a task, including booking, rescheduling and bounded refunds.

Who should choose which

Customers reach you on WhatsApp, SMS or the phone

EzyConn

CustomGPT deploys to websites and content platforms. It does not publish messaging or voice channels, so those conversations would need another product.

People escalate to a human several times a day

EzyConn

CustomGPT does not publish a handoff workflow or an agent inbox. EzyConn routes to a shared inbox, or into Teams and Slack where staff already are.

A six person team needs a predictable monthly bill

EzyConn

CustomGPT Standard includes three seats and charges $100 a month for five more. EzyConn Professional covers 11 people at $95 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between EzyConn and CustomGPT.ai?

CustomGPT.ai is a retrieval product. It ingests large document sets and returns answers with a link to the source of each one, which suits research, documentation and internal knowledge. EzyConn is a customer conversation platform. It answers, then routes to a human inbox, works across WhatsApp, Telegram, email, phone and team chat, and can complete tasks such as booking or moving an appointment.

Does CustomGPT.ai have a free plan?

No. It offers a 7 day trial of the Standard features and asks for a card. CustomGPT paid plans start at $99 per month. EzyConn has a free forever plan with 500 messages per month, for 2 people.

Which is cheaper?

EzyConn, in almost every configuration involving a team. CustomGPT Standard is $99 per month for 1,000 queries and 3 seats, with 5 extra seats at $100 per month and 2,500 extra queries at $375 per month. On EzyConn, Professional at $95 a month covers 11 people and 25,000 messages a month. The gap widens quickly once you add either people or volume.

Is EzyConn a CustomGPT.ai alternative?

For customer facing support, yes, and it covers channels CustomGPT does not.

Does CustomGPT.ai support human handoff?

Its public product pages do not describe a handoff workflow, an agent inbox or live takeover. Teams that need escalation typically pair it with a separate support tool. We would rather say that plainly than guess at an unpublished capability.

Which is better for appointment booking?

EzyConn. It checks availability across staff, books, moves an existing booking, releases the freed slot and sends a reminder. CustomGPT does not publish scheduling or availability capabilities.

Can both remove vendor branding?

CustomGPT includes branding removal on Premium at $499 per month and on Enterprise, so it is not available on the $99 plan. On EzyConn, removing the badge comes with the Professional plan.

The verdict

This is one of the cleaner decisions in the category, because the two products barely overlap once you look past the shared label.

Choose EzyConn when the customer is the hard part. People arriving on several channels, a team sharing the answering, escalations that need somewhere to land, and outcomes that involve a calendar rather than a citation. It costs a fraction of CustomGPT for that shape of work, and the free plan means you can prove it before committing. If you need both, running a knowledge agent alongside a support platform is a reasonable stack, and plenty of companies do exactly that.
